My own counselling journey started as a client, I wanted to understand myself better, have a better understanding of my place in the world around me and explore my own life experiences more closely. Before embarking on my journey in becoming a counsellor I have worked within the NHS both in emergency and urgent care, this work highlighted to me the keen interest I developed in mental health and wanted to enhance my skills, knowledge and experience to help others in a different way. As part of this I am constantly learning and developing my own skills, continued professional development helps me to develop and learn about specific needs of a client or cover specific areas that may be affecting my clients, such as cultural issues, problems that have arisen around diversity and/or other elements in the clients life around, work, family and relationships. By doing this it enhances all of the work I engage in but also assists my clients to really feel heard and understood. These area of development are of great importance to me.
